The Earth Day

Today is the earth day. In my opinion it should be one of the most important days celebrated throughout the globe to remind people about the fact that we are all living in one earth with limited resources.

With regard to resource use, one of the real problems is that we in the west only recirculate a very small percentage of the resources that we use. If most things were reused, the need for mining would radically decrease. And it is not only recirculation, but much of the environmental problems are caused by things that could be used. Take plastics for example, they are made mainly of oil, and after their use could minimally be burned to generate energy instead of having to pump more oil for energy production. If this were done, i.e. plastics collected for energy production, a huge environmental problem of plastic gyres in the oceans would start to diminish. As paper is effectively recirculated, collecting plastics should be an easy feat: it would just require an increase in collection places. It is up to communities and states to start celebrating the earth day doing this kind of easy and cheap gesture.

Happy Earth Day
